Dr. Daniel Anaya is a Senior Member/Professor, Chief of GI Surgery and Head of Hepatobiliary Section in the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology, at Moffitt Cancer Center. He is a fellowship trained Surgical Oncologist with a particular interest on the surgical treatment of patients with liver malignancies (primary and metastatic) and neuroendocrine tumors.
His academic interest centers around improving the quality of cancer care, implementing models to improve the delivery of care for patients with complex cancers, and on teaching and developing complex surgical techniques in HPB surgery.
He has significant experience in developing academic programs that facilitate delivery of the highest quality of care, while also providing a framework to support education, research, and innovation in the field of cancer and surgery. In this context, Dr. Anaya has led multiple initiatives spanning across teamwork, clinical care, translational research, clinical trials, education, training and innovation. He is the Principal Investigator of multiple funded studies. He is also founder and director of a unique hands-on Course on Surgical Techniques in HPB Surgery, geared to incoming Surgical Oncology Fellows nationally. His projects have been funded through federal, industry, foundation, and local grants.
Dr. Anaya earned his medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. He completed a General Surgery internship and residency at University of Washington School of Medicine, in Seattle, and a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He recently completed a Masters of Science in Health Care Transformation at the Value Institute for Health & Care at UT Austin.
