FELLOWS INSTITUTE 2023
SSO’s Fellows Institute is an annual educational program co-sponsored with the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) and the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS). Fellows Institute provides hands-on lab experiences, lectures and networking that complement the education you receive in your fellowship program.
SSO’s 13th Annual Fellows Institute will take place in person in Houston, TX, November 13-15, 2023 and will include these specialty-specific tracks:
- Breast Surgical Oncology- November 13-November 14, 2023- Led by Jacqueline S. Jeruss, MD, PhD, Mediget Teshome, MD; Amanda Kong, MD, and Kristalyn Gallagher, DO
Day one features: Breast lectures on topics such as Management of the Axilla, Key Publications for the Surgical Oncologist, Personalized Medicine and Radiation Oncology, Career Development and networking.
Day two features: Cadaver Hands-on labs in focus areas such as Oncoplastic, Ultrasound and Biopsy, Innovative Breast Technologies from valued vendors focusing on ultrasound, live model scanning, and localization.
- Melanoma/Sarcoma/Endocrine, CRC/HIPEC/Gastric, HPB- November 14-November 15, 2023- Sean Dineen, MD, and Maria Russell, MD, oversee the Surgical Oncology track and the HPB track is led by Sabino Zani, MD.
Day one features: Lectures on topics such as Whipple Pancreaticoduodenectomy: Pearls and Pitfalls, Building an Academic Career, HIPS Indications & Setup Techniques Starting Your Practice, Practice Building, Challenging Cases, Career Development, and networking.
Day two features: Cadaver Hand-on labs in procedures such as minimally invasive robotic surgery, Ultrasound Ablation, Minimally Invasive Groin Dissection Liver mobilization, ultrasound and resection, total gastrectomy, pelvic peritoneal resection, nephrectomy, and more.
